The process of innovation manifests as new science, new technology and new business. How do these three components cooperate for innovation in large cities across the globe? Innovation in cities benefits from diverse knowledge inputs,  but specialization helps to focus limited resources. How do diversification and specialization play out within and across the three components? We examine these relationships across cities with different economic histories and institutional arrangements.
