About the Book
A Chance of a Lifetime: Lee Kuan Yew and the Physical Transformation of Singapore is based on a conference that was held in 2013 to celebrate Lee’s 90th birthday. It charts the city-state’s urban development over the last half-century, including Lee’s pivotal role, through first-hand accounts by top officials – Peter Ho on planning, Liu Thai Ker on housing, Tan Wee Kiat on greening and Khoo Teng Chye on water. Chua Beng Huat, Simon Tay, and Burhan Gafoor provide commentary on these themes, while Ho Kwon Ping, Liew Mun Leong, Aline Wong and Aaron Maniam consider future challenges. Featuring a 2012 interview with Lee on urban development, graphic timelines for each theme, and rarely seen archival images, the book includes a foreword by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, an introduction by former president, S R Nathan, and an epilogue by Ambassador Tommy Koh.
This book retails at major bookstores locally for SGD 29.90.
