Weiping Wu is Professor of Urban Planning and Director of the M.S. Urban Planning programme at Columbia University, New York, USA. She is also on the faculty of the Weatherhead East Asian Institute and Columbia Population Research Centre. Trained in architecture and urban planning, Professor Wu has focused her research on understanding urban dynamics in developing countries in general and China in particular. She is an internationally acclaimed planning scholar working on global urbanization with a specific expertise in migration, housing, and infrastructure of Chinese cities. Among her eight books, the most recent are The SAGE Handbook of Contemporary China and The Chinese City. She is the immediate Past President of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning and former editor of the Journal of Planning Education and Research. She has worked as a consultant for the World Bank, the Ford Foundation, and Lincoln Institute of Land Policy.
