The LKYCIC is pleased to announce the launch of its latest book, Port Cities, by Dr. Sharon Siddique. Port Cities is a comparative study of Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tianjin, Tokyo, Jakarta and Johor Bahru (PTP) – and the complex, dynamic and symbiotic relationship between the ports and their cities. In the 21st Century, these Asian ports have expanded, constantly adapting to new technology, rapid growth trajectories and the forces of globalisation. Meanwhile, the physical location of ports have shifted, moving from the spaces adjacent to the city centres to city peripheries, allowing for the expansion of urban waterfronts. Through a detailed exploration of these shifts and their impacts on city form, this book highlights the dynamics of these port cities and their attempts to unite land and water.
