On August 5th, 2022, HUFO and the Vietnam-Southeast Asia Friendship Association in HCM City (VAFA), celebrated the 55th anniversary of ASEAN’s founding and the 27th anniversary of Vietnam’s ascension to ASEAN as well as the award ceremony of the winning groups of the “The Smart City in the Fourth Industrial Revolution” Webinar Competition.
The webinar competition was hosted by the Centre for ASEAN Human Resources Research & Training (CAHRRT), in collaboration with the Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities (LKYCIC). The competition began on January 3rd, 2022, and immediately drew the interest and participation of nearly 100 undergraduate students from a diverse range of institutions in Ho Chi Minh City including: the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the University of Architecture, Ton Duc Thang University, Nguyen Tan Thanh University, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and the Vietnam National University, Bến Tre City campus. Prizes given out included one first prize, one second prize, one third prize, and three consolation prizes.
The event was attended by delegates from ASEAN consulates including Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Laos, Indonesia, and Thailand, as well as HUFO, VAFA, institutes of higher learning, and private sector partners. From the webinar competition organizers, representatives from CAHRRT included Associate Professor Phan Thi Hong Xuan, Centre Director, and President of VAFA, while Dr Rafael Martinez Garcia, Research Fellow, attended in representation of LKYCIC.
The event served as a celebration for Vietnam’s history in ASEAN and to signal the hope of a future of closer collaboration, unity, and friendship within the region. Additionally, it was the culmination of the first collaboration between CAHRRT and LKYCIC, paving the way to other future joint projects in the domains of education, training, and research.
