Synopsis
In this talk, Dr Lee will explore key factors of successful youth-start up including creativity, attitudes, and the unique innovative environment provided by public-private sector partnerships. He will discuss incubator models, recent trends of AI application and highlight the journeys of youth start-ups through case studies such as Jack Ma’s Alibaba and the career of Jay Chou.
Dr Lee will also share findings from the case study of the New Taipei City (NTPC) – Amazon Web Service (AWS) Joint Innovation Centre. Utilisation of AWS’s cloud technologies and services, including big data core services, has enabled the NTPC-AWS Joint Innovation Centre to integrate various aspects of the ecosystem in order to accelerate start-up innovation. The Joint Innovation Centre has also provided a vibrant and dynamic platform for attracting talent, funding, technologies, marketing possibilities, and international visibility for new entrepreneurs. It has facilitated start-up growth and expedited digital transformation for traditional industries in the New Taipei City.
About the speaker
Dr Jack Lee is currently a Visiting Scholar at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore (NUS). He earned his PhD in Public Policy Analysis from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, U.S.A. In 2007, Dr Lee was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar of the Centre for Business and Government, Kennedy School at Harvard University. During 2011-2012, he was appointed by the President of Taiwan to be the Minister of National Youth Commission, with the distinction of being the youngest Minister in the Cabinet of Taiwan. Dr Lee’s specialization focuses on City and Regional Governance, Youth Policy, Public Budgeting, and Performance Assessment. In recent decades, Dr Lee has been an advisor for many government agencies, academic institutes, and Non-Profit Organizations. Dr Lee has published 21 books, authored and co-authored 73 articles, in both English and Mandarin. He is also a referee for SSCI international academic journals including the prestigious Public Administration and Public Administration Review. In this talk, Dr Lee will share the findings of his academic research and practical career experience, based on his prior experiences as a Harvard Fulbright Visiting Scholar and Minister of National Youth Commission in Taiwan.
