Channel 8 ran a story on the Honk! app developed by SUTD and LKYCIC faculty and researchers together with Singapore company LDR Technology.
The app won the Singapore Good Design Mark (SG Mark for short), an annual award “which sets the benchmark for good design and quality. It was launched in 2013 by the Design Business Chamber Singapore (DBCS) in partnership with the Japan Institute of Design Promotion.
Honk! aims to increase recycling rates and to do so by building on and redesigning—not disrupting—the existing karung guni social system, a traditional small-scale entrepreneurial trade (also known as the rag-and-bone man in other countries). LKYCIC Adjunct Fellow, Dr Andy Zheng, was interviewed in this story.
